Charmaine believes that every child deserves the opportunity to communicate and create meaningful relationships within the wider community. She also sees the importance of parental involvement in their child’s development. As such, she finds joy in working in partnership with parents and caregivers to learn with, and from one another. She hopes that as we move towards a more inclusive society, every child can receive acceptance and greater accessibility to relevant services.
Charmaine developed a deep interest in serving the community and sees this career as a calling since her teenage years. She pursued the Masters of Speech Pathology at the University of Melbourne. Upon graduation in 2015, Charmaine has had the opportunity to work closely with children and young adults in a special needs school and clinic setting. She is experienced with working with children who have developmental conditions including, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Global Developmental Delay, fluency disorders, and speech and language disorders. She is also familiar and experienced in Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) including Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS), Pragmatic Organisation Dynamic Display (PODD) books, and eye gaze technology.
With a deep-rooted passion for her role as a Speech Therapist, Charmaine is keen on clinical education and has supervised both students and junior therapists. She continues to seek professional development, and has received training in the following:
